“Would you buy a Cadillac from a Volkswagen Dealer?”

“…then why would you buy an air conditioner or heat pump from a plumbing or gas company?”

Air conditioners and heat pumps work by extracting heat from an area using a refrigeration cycle. Proper knowledge of the refrigeration cycle requires specialized training and government trade certification, and is not included in standard gas/heating or plumbing training. Under-qualified or improper installation, or poor maintenance will shorten the lifespan of even the best equipment and may void your manufacturer’s warranty.

Chill-Air has fully licensed Refrigeration Mechanics to make sure your “refrigeration system” (i.e. air conditioner or heat pump) is installed and running correctly, and they are fully warranty-qualified by air conditioning and heat pump manufacturers. Call today to book an appointment to find out how you can start to Save up to 50% off your heating bill and get summer air conditioning at the same time!

CHILLIWACK – In the two years since Chris and Yvonne Churly bought the Chill-Air name, it has become a force to be reckoned with in the Fraser Valley. Chill-Air was started in 1989 by Robert Wilkinson as a one-man operation primarily installing residential air conditioning. Today, Chill-Air has six trucks on the road offering 24/7 service and is one of the most respected companies in its field in the Fraser Valley. Chill-Air offers Red Seal certified journeymen in Refrigeration, HVAC, gas, sheet metal and ducting as well as Geo-Thermal certified (IGSHPA & CSA 448) for the design and installation of geo-thermal systems. Yvonne Churly says that commercial customers consider Chill-Air a “one-stop” shop for everything to do with air and refrigeration including:

  • Refrigeration supply, repair and maintenance
  • Ice Machines
  • Walk-In Freezers/Coolers
  • Grocery/Deli/Meat Stores
  • Design/Build
  • Commercial kitchen installation
  • Maintenance contracts
  • HVAC (Heat, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) installation, repair and maintenance
  • Package Dual Fuel Heat Pumps (Hybrid systems)
  • Rooftop Units
  • Chillers
  • Boilers
  • Make-Up Air Units and UV filtration systems
  • Zoning Systems
  • DDC, Micro-Thermo, VFD and energy management controls
  • Exhaust/Supply Air Fans
  • Furnaces
  • Custom sheet metal

Churly explains that about 90 per cent of the company’s work is commercial. Chill-Air services a broad spectrum of products for a range of customers including malls, restaurants, fast food, grocery and convenience stores, farmers, processing plants, offices and retail stores. Service is the company’s edge, Churly says. “Our guys are definitely Red Seal certified journeymen and that is one of our advantages. We also have six trucks on the road with 24 hour seven day a week service. If you’re a grocery store and just received $20,000 worth of ice cream and your walk-in cooler is down at three in the morning, we’re going to be there.”

Chill-Air owner: Chris Churly

She adds that her husband, Chris has the background, the enthusiasm, the energy and the expertise that has brought the company so far in two years and that will take the company much farther still. Chris Churly has been in the in the HVAC-Refrigeration industry since 1991 working on the manufacturing side as a sales manager, branch manager and territorial manager. “He knows the product inside and out,” Yvonne Churly says. “He’s also certified in geo thermal and he’s certified in Quality First, which is about designing and sizing up heating and cooling and ventilation systems.” For many years, Chris Churly worked with top engineers advising on building design to ensure that the mechanical systems of the building would work optimally. “He brings a really broad base of knowledge in both the product and the application of the product,” Yvonne says.

In fact, the former owner of Chill-Air was a customer before the Churlys purchased the name. Yvonne says that although they have worked hard in the past two years, the decision to own their own company was the best one they have ever made. “In many ways it has changed our lives,” she says. “My husband has always been extremely good at what he does. We breathed new life into the name Chill-Air and the services it provides for Chilliwack, It’s now one of the premier commercial providers in town.”

The response from customers has been exceptionally positive, Churly says and it has also been strong from employees of the company who are proud to work for Chill-Air, whose reputation for excellence is growing in the Fraser Valley. Churly says that her husband doesn’t know how to fail. In fact, he doesn’t even know how to stand still. “His goal is to grow,” she says. “We service Maple Ridge, Abbotsford, Mission and all the way to Boston Bar and Lytton. I think he‘d like to put more trucks on the road and actually have a base out there – really solidify our presence in Abbotsford.” There are a lot more trucks to be put on the road, she says, and a lot more commercial businesses to be done. “Chris’ goal is to continue adding service,” Churly says. “It’s been really exciting so far and it’s fun watching Chris do what he does.” Chill-Air is at 1 – 7870 Enterprise Way in Chilliwack.
